Texas Tech: Bowl eligible now or not?

Good morning West Texans and all you good, fine, friendly folks out there who wish you were . . .

There’s lots of wind in the wire this morning about whether the Red Raiders are bowl eligible right now at 6-4 on the year. After trading some quick e-mails with Texas Tech Associate AD/Media Relation guru Chris Cook we can tell you that as of right now Texas Tech needs one more win over either OU or Baylor.

The sticking point is the win over UND to start the year. North Dakota is a a provisional FCS member and doesn’t meet the minimum scholarship level (75%) right now to qualify as a bowl-eligible win for Texas Tech. It is easy to see where the confusion can come from when you read the NCAA rules on the subject, but that’s the word from Texas Tech this morning.

So, with OU coming to town and Baylor on the road it is still most likely that Tech can extend their bowl-eligible streak for another year, but they’ve got a little work to do yet.
