Mike Leach ratcheted up the animosity level a little more tonight by firing back at Tech officials alleging that they’re engaging in lies. This isn’t the sound of a man that wants to settle out of court. This isn’t the sound of a man that wants a remedy. This is the sound of a man that wants a reckoning.
I still think that at the end of the day Leach and Tech will settle before this goes to a jury trial with the specter of all sorts of things coming out on all sides. It would be a fire-fight that could possibly even keep other schools from wanting to hire Leach just because they’d be afraid he’d sue them too.
Leach wants his name cleared, he wants accountability and he wants it now. This story is going to get worse before it gets better. As for Tech officials, they should be prepared to fight a huge PR battle against Mike Leach. So far, Ted Liggett and Leach are owning the story, and the news cycle plus the fan-base. If the University doesn’t come out with more than what they have so far, the fall-out will be nuclear winter for Tech football. Careers hang in the balance, not just Leach’s but Kent Hance and Guy Bailey also. If they want to survive they better get ready to fight. Get the popcorn.
