Hyatt is a husband and a father, a guitar player, a fly-fisherman and a bad golfer. Raised in West Texas and a Texas Tech graduate, he's proud of his diploma; he's just not sure where it is. After 20-years in radio, television, and print Hyatt now finds himself on the internet. He reckons that is a good thing.

Texas does not want to stay in the leftover 10, but they don’t really want to go west. So my thought was force their hand, go ahead and submit the Tech application to the Pac-10 and have them say yes then Texas will be forced to join. Nope, first of all the Pac-10 doesn’t want us they are taking us only if they already have Texas. So they would not accept us in hopes of forcing UT to come this way because they don’t think it would happen. If by some luck of the draw the Pac-10 took us and the Ags went to the SEC then UT could look around and say all of their brothers are taken care of and then they could go where ever their longhorn hearts desired. Pac-10 won’t take that risk. As always UT holds all the cards. They will stay in the leftover 10 with this increased money that Beebe is promising and their own network and then when Missouri wonders to the Big 10 in a few years UT is sitting pretty and won’t need a conference anymore and we will get to join the WAC or Mountain West. The only way this ends good for us is if the Ags see that the only way out of big brother horns shadow is to go east and do it now. We need the Ags to do the smart thing and blow the leftover 10 up right now and force UT to go west and take us with them. It’s not looking good for the scarlet and black right now.

Funny how there’s dancin in the streets of Waco (forget Baptist code) and cryin on the streets of Lubbock and Stillwater. I guess it all depends on where Baylor, Ok St, and Tech stood on Saturday. Bears were HOPING to get accepted by the Mountain West (in spite of TCU), while Tech and Ok State were gonna be on equal footing with mighty Texas in a new superconference. Even though we all will improve our annual TV revenue, it reminds me of how the U.S. viewed that soccer tie as a win while England felt like it was a loss.

You gotta give credit to A&M and Oklahoma. They leveraged their flirting with the SEC into a bigger piece of the pie. We all knew Texas could get whatever they wanted, but I didn’t expect it from the other 2.

I guess we all see the writing on the wall. Art Briles needs to find a way to make Baylor relevant in football (tall order). When the next round of realignment happens (likely soon), Baylor needs to be a lot prettier and more prepared (see Colorado). Ditto Texas Tech and Ok State. The big boys held all the power this round, and that power’s only gonna become greater given their increased annual revenue and UT’s imminent TV network. Texas might just become independent while the other two take off to the SEC, after Missouri’s expected departure to the BIG 10.

    Keep up the good work.
