5 Things We Know On A Friday: 8/27/10
1. Make no mistake, there will be some Texas Tech fan’s that will celebrate the retirement announcement by Tech A. D. Gerald Myers thinking that “anything will be better than what we’ve got right now”. These are the same folks that voted for “change” in 2008 thinking that anything had to be better than George Bush. Remember, only better is better. Many more thoughts on Gerald Myers impending retirement on The Show tonight.
2. Any short-list for the Texas Tech Athletic Director’s job that doesn’t include current Nebraska Associate A.D. Bob Burton is flawed and wrong. Burton was brought in at Tech in the late-90′s to clean up the NCAA violations mess and was a rising star then, living up to the expectations the last 12 years at Nebraska. If he’s interested, talk to him.
3. Same thing goes for Arizona St. A.D. Lisa Love. A West Texas native from Tulia, a former Tech athlete and a great reputation for understanding the economics of college sports, again, if she’s interested talk to her.
4. While it would be great to have someone with Texas Tech ties in the job it should not be a requirement. If the best applicant happens to have Tech ties, great. If not it would be asinine to use that as a litmus test. Remember, if that were the case you wouldn’t have Tommy Tuberville as a football coach. ( or you wouldn’t have had Mike Leach for that matter )
5. Myers best hire while at Texas Tech: Track coach Wes Kittley.

Them bats is smart, they got radar.
Always appreciate a fan of David Letterman. . .
Glad we financially secured Ian McCaw in Waco. Lotsa schools interested, and I bet that had BU not required millions to steal Art (not that the Red Raiders miss him having Tub), Briles would be in Lubbock. Ditto McCaw?
I don’t know. McCaw has a nice reputation but I’m not sure he fits the profile for Texas Tech right now. He’s a good fit for Baylor though and that’s all that matters.
