Good morning West Texans and all you good, fine, friendly folks out there who wish you were . . .
For the last full week in February we’ve got a lot of stuff going on here in the Hubbaplex. Texas Tech got spring football drills underway this past weekend, Tech baseball is off to a solid start with the pitching staff going as deep in the first few games of the season since 1999 and basketball is still a going concern as well. Not bad for a “slow” time of the year.
Today we’ll try and recap it all with you on a Good, Bad and Ugly Monday on the show. We’ll talk to Texas Tech Baseball Coach Dan Spencer on the show as well as head out to Daytona and get the latest after qualifying from Speed/Fox Sports announcer and host of RaceDay and NASCAR Victory Lane – John Roberts. Should be fun.
As for you guys, let’s have you sound-off on a few things this morning just to get your creative juices flowing and get this week started right for you. Here’s you’re 3 Questions for today:
- As Texas Tech opens up Spring Football Drills, give me the player you think is the best offensive player the Red Raiders will suit up next fall. You have to look at new guys, injured guys and maybe even project a position battle or two. So, who is Texas Tech’s best offensive player in 2012?
- A friend of mine way up in the Big “Windy” City of Chicago got to catch Joe Ely live this weekend. He also happens to be a music critic/free-loader. Thought you’d enjoy reading his review of the West Texas music legend. Today I want you to give me your favorite Joe Ely concert, where it was and maybe some of the other performers. If you can remember. If you can’t, I understand. Really. I understand. . .
- If you could eat at just one Lubbock restaurant for the rest of this year, which one would you choose and why?
Alright, that should get you rolling on a Monday. We’ll see you at 3p.m. on SportsRadio 1340 The Fan. Check out the live streaming. You’ll like it.

Don’t remember the year (mid to late ’90s) but it was when Ely was supporting the Letters to Laredo release. The venue was in the Depot District but the name has changed so many times, I can’t remember the name. But Jesse Taylor, the Flaminco guitar player and Mr. Maines were there. I still believe that to be the best concert I have ever witnessed.
As the esteemed blogger up north said, Joe Ely does not mail it in. He gives you everything he has every performance.
