Find out if what made the cut today in 5 Things.

5 Things We Know On A Friday: 7/29/10

1. Texas A&M President Bowen Loftin sounds like the kid a the fair wanting to know why he didn’t win the big teddy bear prize at the milk can toss that he was promised. The Aggies can keep asking for the $20 million and interim commissioner Dan Beebe can keep telling them the checks in the mail, but the A&M will be lucky if they get to take home one of those sickly goldfish you win at the fair. Oh, and good-luck with that SEC thing.

2. Dennis Dodd’s interview with Pac 10(12) boss Larry Scott was revealing in many ways. Scott won’t make the same mistakes next time. Good cover for Texas too to lay some blame on the politicians. The politicians didn’t derail the bid, the BCS, TV and Texas did. Makes for a good story though.

3. I’ve got no use whatsoever for people that try to use the turn lane to “merge” into traffic nor the old ladies who cross double-yellow lines at intersections trying to turn left across traffic and wonder why everyone is staring and honking at them. It should be mandatory that folks retake their driver’s license test every five years and then every year after age 65.

4. Carl Edwards is one of the most annoying athletes out there that fortunately most folks don’t know about.

5. Great to see former Texas Tech football player Marcus Coleman go into the Hall of Honor. Along with Donny Anderson, Coleman may be the most talented overall athlete to ever wear the scarlet and black.

Pac 10 (12) commish Larry Scott tells all about Texas politics and how orangebloods.com got the story, the Aggies still want their Big 12 $$$ and the Rangers get some help. Must be Friday.

Good morning West Texans and all you good, fine, friendly folks out there who wish you were . . .

A very good read this morning from CBS Sportline‘s Dennis Dodd. I’ve had my issues with Dodd’s agenda driven reporting over the last few years regarding Texas Tech but he shed’s some light on what happened in the Pac-10′s failed bid to land the Big 12 South minus Baylor last month. Pac-10 (12) commissioner Larry Scott gives some great quotes and essentially lays the blame on Texas politics for derailing the plan and also targets Texas officials and “sources” for leaking information to orangebloods.com during those days in an effort to destabilize Nebraska’s move to the Big 10. Well worth reading and we’ll talk about it all tonight on The Show.

We’ll also look at the Rangers pick-up of Jorge Cantu last night as well as preview the upcoming weekend for a team that may or may not be sold by this time next week.

Get ready for your Friday Night Tri-Fecta and True-False quiz as well.

In addition we plan to visit with Chuck Carlton from the Dallas Morning News about Texas A&M’s demands to the Big 12 to show them the money “or else” and what it means for the fragile peace treaty.

More things developing today so it could get really interesting by 3p.m. Get ready to call at 1-866-984-5326.

The Big 12 Family Reunion wraps up today and we ask you a question about the biggest change for Texas Tech football under Tommy Tuberville.

Good morning West Texans and all you good, fine, friendly folks out there who wish you were . . .

It’s the final day of Big 12 Media Shin-Dig and Beach Party hosted by commissioner for life (interim) Dan Beebe. We’ll have complete coverage with the A-J’s Don Williams, Raiderpower.com’s Travis Cram and a few other folks as well. Today Mack Brown goes so you might want to put some boots on.

We also begin prep to win our fantasy football leagues with NFP‘s Joe Fortenbaugh as he joins us for a pre-season report. Might even find out what he thinks about T.O’s potential in Cincinnati.

Aside from that we’ll ask you the Random Question: What will be the biggest difference under Tommy Tuberville this year that will have the biggest impact on Red Raider football? Post your thoughts here and we’ll read ‘em on the air tonight and be sure to call in at 1-866-984-5326.

Live from Rudy's BBQ we cover Big 12 Media Days featuring Texas Tech today!

Good afternoon West Texans and all you good, fine, friendly folks out there who wish you were . . .

Day Two of Big 12 Media Days will be the focus this afternoon with Texas Tech Coach Tommy Tuberville talking to the masses last today. We’ll have a complete recap from Dallas with Don Williams as well as Raiderpower.com’s Travis Cram. It should be interesting to see what the Red Raider head coach has to say after getting reprimanded for speaking his mind earlier this month.

We’ll also look at the Dallas Cowboys training camp and the fall-out from Dez Bryant telling Roy Williams to hire a butler not an NFL rookie.

The Rangers are back in action as well so we’ve got plenty to do tonight.

Be sure and stop by Rudy’s BBQ tonight from 3-7 while we’re out there and take advantage of the buy one, get one free chopped beef sandwich special. See ya tonight.

A Lubbock Church responds to a family in need. Here's how you can help.

Good morning West Texans and all you good, fine, friendly folks out there who wish you were . . .

There’s a fine story in the A-J today about St. Luke’s United Methodist Church helping out a family in Wolffarth. I’ll let you read the story yourself and you can make a decision on your own if you’d like to help out. I’m really excited to see St. Luke’s make the commitment they’ve made here not just to the family but particularly the children in need here. We can debate the causes, circumstances and reactions by adults all we want but the children have no choice. If you can, I hope you decide to help no matter where you call home.
