A Lubbock Church responds to a family in need. Here's how you can help.

Good morning West Texans and all you good, fine, friendly folks out there who wish you were . . .

There’s a fine story in the A-J today about St. Luke’s United Methodist Church helping out a family in Wolffarth. I’ll let you read the story yourself and you can make a decision on your own if you’d like to help out. I’m really excited to see St. Luke’s make the commitment they’ve made here not just to the family but particularly the children in need here. We can debate the causes, circumstances and reactions by adults all we want but the children have no choice. If you can, I hope you decide to help no matter where you call home.

One last night in Lubbock, where do you eat? Cultural Index Thursday.

Good morning West Texans and all you good, fine, friendly folks out there who wish you were . . .

We’ve made it to Thursday but the week sure is moving slow. Looking forward to more rains here in West Texas thanks to Alex, but don’t want to ruin any plans for the Fourth of July so let’s just have it rain from Midnight to 7a.m. each day!

Tonight on The Show we’ll continue to examine the fall-out created by Texas Tech Coach Tommy Tuberville’s comments on the Big 12 not looking so good long-term. His “Emperor Has No Clothes” moment has sent shock-waves around the league and country.

You’d think he’d revealed the secrets to Coca-Cola and Kentucky Fried Chicken all at once.

How dare Tuberville say what all smart folks are already saying and thinking about the Big 12!

It is Cultural Index Thursday as well so we go to the pages of Raiderpower.com. I’ve got several friends that haven’t been back to the Hubbaplex in ten years, as hard as that is for me to believe. Tonight I want to know where and what you’d eat in Lubbock if you new you wouldn’t make it back for a decade? Sorta a last meal thing, but different. The dish is as important as where I think.

We’ll also take your calls on the Rangers and Vlad beating up on the Angels last night plus we visit with Shaun Lenrose from The Ticket in Dallas about Dirk and the Mavs.

See you at three.

Cultural Index ? ask you who you'd cast in a remake of Smokey in the Bandit! Put the evidence in the car. . .Don't miss out on our Thursday Face-off feature either today.

Good morning West Texans and all you good, fine, friendly folks out there who wish you were . . .

Another great summer day here on the South Plains. Today we’ll celebrate Cultural Index Thursday by asking you who you would cast as the main characters in a remake of Smokey and the Bandit. We’ve seen some good suggestions on Facebook so far and want to get your best one’s posted here so we can use them on The Show.

We’ll also visit with Chuck Carlton from The Dallas Morning News about college sports shifting powers, Chuck Kelly gives us a quick-hit preview from Omaha for the Sooners elimination game against South Carolina and Shaun Lenrose will join us from Dallas and The Little Ticket talking about the white-hot Rangers.

We also debut the Thursday Face-off today where we pit two somewhat similar things for you to choose from. Today it is Tacos vs. Chicken Fried Steak. One meal. One choice. Which direction do you go? Where do you go to get it?

Don’t miss a minute, the show starts at three and we’ll take you to 5:40 today before bringing you the Sooners and Gamecocks.

From John Maxwell to a Civil War history, find out what Hyatt's reading and then add your own suggestions to the list for Monday's Show.

Happy Weekend to ya West Texans and all you good, fine, friendly folks out there who wish you were . . .

As most of you know I like to read quite a bit. We figure if you’re a part of our audience you’re smart, well educated and like to read as well! Starting Monday on The Show we’ll be taking your calls on what you’re currently reading or a good book you’ve recently finished. We’ll try and keep up a journal here on the site for you folks to refer back to. I know I’m always getting good ideas from friends on what to read so who better to turn to than you–our friends on The Show.

Right now I’m in the process of re-reading John Maxwell’s Today Matters. I hate to call it a Self-Help book because that turns a lot of people off. I get it. I like Maxwell’s stuff because I can get good ideas that I can reshape and craft into my own life from both a person or business standpoint. Even if you don’t like it, it has got a good John Wooden story in it.

The other book we’re re-reading is Thomas B. Buell’s Warrior Generals: Combat Leadership in the Civil War. This is a great read for either fans of history or the traits that go into building leaders under stress. Buell does a great job of examining several campaigns that often get overlooked by other books.

So, that’s what I”m reading. What’s on your list? Post it here and we’ll lead-0ff the discussion Monday on The Show with your nominations.

Thanks,

Hyatt

Hyatt's got his sights set on everything from Tim Tebow and the Super Bowl Ad that's set off a fire-storm, Texas Tech's newest coach and Haitian relief efforts. Maybe you're mentioned too?

Good morning West Texans and all you good, fine, friendly folks out there who wish you were . . .

New Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville is putting together quite the staff. He added in Robert Prunty on Thursday from Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia. HMA has an impressive list of graduates going on to college ball and then the NFL including guys like Tory Holt and Jay Ratliff amongst others. If nothing else, Tuberville’s staff has the ability to tap into talented pipe-lines not just in Texas but across the South and Southeast. The SEC country is an area Mike Leach’s staff spent a lot of time and money on over the last few years and it finally paid off in this recruiting class with guys like Corker and Boone. It is good to know that won’t be going to waste in the coming months and years.

Why wouldn’t CBS air a pro-life ad featuring Tim Tebow during the Super Bowl? It is funny that before he’s taken the stage in a pro sport, Tebow has already demonstrated more social awareness and the willingness to stand on principle than Tiger Woods could do in the last 15 years. Maybe Tiger was busy texting.

Why do I wonder if the money I donated to Haiti relief efforts will ever even end up there, let alone do anything of worht or value to help the people there? It was a broken country before the earthquake, why do we expect to be able to fix it after the disaster? Hopefully this moment will serve as a tipping-point to provide the Haitian people with global accountability that will force their government to improve. We can hope and try and help.

Pat Forde does a nice job writing a column that should make any fan think twice before dropping more than a few bucks a year for “recruiting news”. Of course they’ll be no shortage of grades being handed out by the folks at ESPN, but you can’t say he didn’t warn ya. Great read.

Why does the NFL think the fans want the Pro Bowl game to be played at all? Why?
