We’re back in studio today after a fun trip to Rudy’s BBQ. Thanks for all the kind words about our 16th anniversary. It’s a blast doing the show and we look forward to visiting with you guys for years to come.

Today we’ll keep up with Tech golf at the NCAA Championships, check in on the Rangers and of course sort through the latest Judge Sowder ruling in the Mike Leach v. Texas Tech lawsuit. At the end of the day was the ruling a game changer or are we still where we were five months ago? We’ll try and sort it out tonight.

2. I don’t think the few that post on Team Leach will be the one’s liking the results today.

3.  Here’s hoping former Texas Tech pitcher Dallas Braden backs-up his perfect game from last Sunday with another solid start this weekend for the A’s. He just might end up being one of the best stories for Major League Baseball this spring if he can put together a nice start.

4.  I admit it. I’ve become a huge fan of Adam Richman and Man Vs. Food. What makes me mad is that traveling around the country covering Tech sports over the past two decades me and several other members of the travel party have been doing the exact same thing he does, we just weren’t smart enough to start a TV show about it.

5.  The Lubbock City Council voted to approve a deal with Garza County that should make it easier to begin the process of building the pipe (dream) line that will one day pump water from Lake Alan Henry to Lubbock. Uphill. This falls under the heading of “what could possibly go wrong”. Yes, we need to secure our water rights’ future and be good stewards of the land, but I still have major doubts about this project. We’ll see.

On that note it has been interesting as heck to see how some folks around the Tech fandom have had trouble with statements like that from Tuberville. It is as if saying that’s a goal of his makes is like saying it wasn’t of Mike Leach. It was, they just hadn’t gotten there yet. Know way of knowing if they’d ever have gotten there. For now, the challenge is Tubervilles.

1. Nobody, but nobody, sums up Tech’s 2009 season better than Mike Leach. WARNING, this video isn’t safe for work, home, small appliances and many emerging countries. It is mighty interesting to get a look inside the Tech locker room from last year and see what the former Lead Pirate thought about his crew.
2. I’m not too offended by the harsh language Mike Leach uses in the locker room. I grew up in a coaching family so it doesn’t shock me much. I do really wonder why it was taped and who thought it was a good idea to keep it around…
3. I can see where some folks might not like the “God Squad” comments but I have to wonder about the context and what it really means.
4. With Mike Leach in town talking to lawyers today I wonder if will ever get to read his statements. I doubt it.
5. Both Kristy Curry and Pat Knight should have another year as head coaches at Texas Tech. I firmly think that will happen.

Tech’s former Lead Pirate, Mike Leach, is back in the news. The A-J reports that Leach will be in town Friday to give his first put your hand on the Bible and tell the whole truth statements about his firing. Not only will Leach be giving his side of the story but other Tech officials like Chancellor Kent Hance are expected to put their statements down for history as well. Of course if this thing gets settled in the next few weeks like some still believe we’ll probably never get to see the statements. Probably.

I say that because conventional wisdom has been thrown out the window when it comes to this story. Leach has taken a much more aggressive stance than most fired coaches ever do and Texas Tech seems firmly entrenched and more than willing to let this play out in court confident that they’ve got the facts on their side. That’s what makes this so interesting to watch.

The element of the story about Leach this week that has tongues wagging is that his legal team is apparently seeking records from Frenship I.S.D. about Tommy Tuberville’s childrens’ enrollment status. In other words, when did they show up and did it pre-date Leach’s firing.

Some view this as a thinly-veiled attempt to smear Tech and Tuberville and encourage more conspiracy thinking on the part of the Team Leachers that think Leach’s firing and Tuberville’s hiring had been pre-ordained in the Old Testament. To some it wreaks of a desperate fishing expedition by a desperate legal team that knows they don’t have a chance in court so they’ll try to go scorched-earth in the media.

Then there are those that think it is a shrewd move to force Tech’s hand to hand over the cash and scare them out of a trial.

Some one’s got to be right, some one’s got to be wrong here.

Either way, if it does settle and there is no releasing of details, both sides will claim the other side caved in and that they won. They’ll also claim their disappointed the “facts” never came out, but they have to abide by the decision of the court. That’s why so many want this to go to trial. I still think those folks will be left wanting more, much more, at the end of the day.

By the way, if you’re looking for good comedy you’ve got to read the comment section after the A-J story on Leach. I worry about some of those folks, I truly do.

1. How is it possible, according to DoubleTNation and others, that there were huge turnouts in Houston and Dallas for Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville’s recruiting round-up and meet and greets? I thought Tech fans were angry and boycotting the program over the firing of Mike Leach? I guess that’s what happens when a few internet agitators with empty activism garner headlines. More sound than fury and little action.
2. Keep your eyes peeled today for some Tech Football news at redraiders.com . It should be quite interesting to say the least.
3. It was great to turn on Speed last night and see NASCAR LIVE back on the air and practice for the Bud Shoot-Out. I love the “new” plate and can’t wait to get rid of the wing and get back to the spoiler. We may actually get to see drivers race out there this year. Maybe.
4. Peyton Manning isn’t the best QB of all-time, but he’s getting closer. If the Colts win Sunday it should end all debate, if there is any left, about him being better than Tom Brady.
5. Every time you complain about the snow and rain on the South Plains lately just go back and read this story in the A-J and feel better. This is great for the area Ag-producers which means it is great for you if you live around the Hubbaplex. Enjoy.
