Good morning West Texans and all you good, fine, friendly folks out there who wish you were . . .

5 THINGS WE KNOW ON A FRIDAY

1. I don’t care what his ranking is or where he is on the leader board at the U.S. Open right now. The person I’d least like to play for cash would be Phil Mickelson. He’d end up driving my convertible away from the bar I’m afraid.

2. While I’d still have no problem if Nolan Ryan replaced Ron Washington at any time, the biggest cog still missing from last year to this year for the Rangers is Clint Hurdle. I think he brought something to that clubhouse much more than just letting guys know there was something called the “opposite field”.

3. It is great to have Texas Tech Basketball legend Bubba Jennings back in the fold after all these years, uh I mean months. . . er, days? No. Seriously, I think it is great that new coach Billy Gillispie didn’t feel like he had to reinvent the wheel at Tech the way so many coaches do when they come to a losing program. Sometimes you have to look around and realize you have some great people that may not be being utilized the best way or even in the right job spot. Business folks could take a less from that as well.

4. The Windy Man sculpture is back in Lubbock. Surely this means we’ll get no rain and be punished even harder right? Of course if it rains this weekend. . .

5. Dale Earnhardt Jr. is gonna win at Michigan again. It just isn’t going to be this week. If he can get some Sunoco Fuel into that #16 Greg Biffle is going to Victory Lane this Sunday. If not, watch for Matt Kenseth to show up and blandly make everyone look like they have their learner’s permit.

Who's the coolest person in sports?

Good morning West Texans and all you good, fine, friendly folks out there who wish you were. . .

Happy First Day of Summer. As Phineas and Ferb would tell ya, there’s a 104 days of summer vacation til school comes around just to end it. . . Let’s make the most of the next few months. We can say good-bye for a few days to conference realignment and Big 12 rumors and just enjoy the sounds of summer, the CWS, the Texas Rangers (and to a lesser extent the Astros) and of course we’re just a few weeks away from the Dallas Cowboys opening up training camp and finding out if this is the year a team that hosts the Super Bowl plays in it. But for now, we can sit back, enjoy the heat and slow down a bit. Ain’t nothing wrong with that.

Today on the show we’ll check in with the goings on at Omaha and the College World Series that we proudly bring you on SportsRadio 1340 The Fan. We’ll also recap the U.S. Open that gave us a very cool champ in Graeme McDowell as well as a leaderboard on Sunday that was a dream for NBC. Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els all in contention. Now we can ask if Tiger is really returning to form or just had a great Saturday?

Our Random Questions today is this: Who is the coolest person in the world of sports? Define cool any way you want to.

We’ll have more for ya of course and we’ll update the show notes as we go through the day, but this is a good start.

Thank heavens for the U.S. Open! A much needed distraction.

Good morning West Texans and all you good, fine, friendly folks out there who wish you were . . .

After the events of the past few weeks I’m really glad we’ve got the U.S. Open to focus on for the next four days. I really, really need some great golf to unfold at Pebble Beach. I’ll be rooting for Phil but if I’ve got to make a pick give me Luke Donald or Steve Stricker to perhaps finally break through. Tiger Woods makes the cut but will not be relevant come Sunday. Unless you’re a hot waitress. . .

Today on The Show we’ll continue to try and sort fact from fiction when it comes to the new Big 12. There’s a lot of “projections” and “hopes” coming out of the Big 12 office but very little substance on what really has gone on. That’s not going to play very well for very long in places like Lubbock, Stillwater and maybe even College Station where the faithful are still peeved they didn’t get to go to the SEC. Hey, they like pork BBQ. Who knew?

We’ll have your Cultural Index Question posted here a bit later so be sure and check back. We’ll also visit with former KKAM Cafe host Shaun Lenrose and findout what’s going on at The Ticket in Dallas.

Today’s Random Question: If you could just play one, which course would it be? Pebble or Augusta National? Why?

Don’t keep your thoughts to yourself. It’s dangerous. Give us a holler at 866-984–5326.
