And now for something completely different!

Ok, for everyone wanting a break from Texas Tech football for a minute we give you the latest on the Texas Rangers. No, not whether they get new, quality ownership that really wants to win. I’m talking serious stuff. Announcing.

Other announcers aren’t supposed to bag on other announcers, but since I’m “retired” from baseball play-by-play for the time being I’ll chime in on the Josh Lewin contract negotiations with the Rangers right now.

Evan Grant (who has-had a dog named Peanut The Princess) writes for the DMN that the Rangers want Lewin to  commit to doing ALL the games in the future and not skip out to do Chargers football broadcast in the fall when Ranger games might actually matter. I get that.  I think the Rangers have every right to demand that. I hope they win. I hope Josh chooses the Chargers.

I may be the only one out there but I’ve always felt Lewin was better suited for football or basketball than baseball. He starts a broadcast on an energy level of 8 and then keeps pushing the limit. Even in June. When it is hot. When I want to kick back and have a beer and relax, he’s calling a double-play like Tomlinson is taking it to the house from 40-yars out (which doesn’t happen anymore, but go with me). I’m sure I’m the only guy that thinks this, but I’ve never felt he was a “baseball guy”.

So, what do you think? I’m sure there are at least a few Rangers fans out there tonight. Keep him or let him go do NFL play-by-play?

I realize I’ve violated a major broadcaster law by commenting on another broadcaster but I fee like I can get away with it sense I respect his football call so much. If not, I’m sure Josh can get on his website and rip me a new one when he’s not busy cashin’ those checks
